Friday Freebie…

by admin on September 26, 2009

Here is Friday’s freebie a day late but at least here now!  There were a series of things behind the scene that prevented it from being posted on Friday.  (smile)

Anyhow, Jan has provided this color swatch Freebie.  Here is what she has to say, “Here’s a little freebie for you to get those creative juices turning over.  It is an 8 colour swatch plus a matching .aco file for you to load in PS or PSE.  The flower that inspired this swatch is the delicate Donkey Orchid which grows wild in the bush of Western Australia.  I hope you use these colours to create something just as lovely.”

Better grab it because you never know how long it’ll be in the shoppe.

Photo Tips: Labeling Photos

by Sonya Murphy on September 22, 2009

Have you ever come across a family picture and wonder who was in it?  When it was taken & where?    I’ve heard of stories where people tossed out pictures because they didn’t know anything about it.    Whenever I’ve been working with old family documents and pictures.  I so appreciate those who took the time to label them with the, who, when, where, etc.  Those steps just added value to those photos didn’t it?   With the digital age it brings in a whole different set of issues than the past but the same basic element remains.  Label those photos.   This may be the wrong audience to address this issue to because as scrappers that is what we are working towards.  Creating a LO with those photo’s that is telling the story with who, what, when, how, etc.   But if those photo’s aren’t in a LO it should still be labeled whether in actual print or sitting on a hard drive on the computer.  This is such an important element to taking pictures.

Why not post your suggestions, helps, or questions to a thread called “Labeling photos” in the SumScrapper forum. Let us know how you label your pictures, or looking for a method, or have questions.  Feel free to go there to read of others experiences, etc.

Photo Tip: Viewpoints

by Sonya Murphy on September 15, 2009

The viewpoint can make a huge difference in the overall outcome of a photo.  This tip is especially useful when you are taking photographs of animals and little kids.  Try getting down on their level.

One year, when my kid’s were in elementary school they were on the yearbook team.  They gave the kids in the yearbook club a camera to take pictures for the yearbook.  Then, they hung up the photo’s those kids took to have a vote on what everyone liked best.

It was amazing how all these elementary school kids came out with amazing viewpoints that we adults forget because we are afraid to try something different.  I even learned something from that.   Some of the kids tipped the camera slightly to one side, others took a picture from below, etc….

This week why don’t you try taking a picture using different viewpoints and post them in the forum.  Just click here to go to the forum.    If you aren’t registered you won’t be able to make any comments or post anything.  So if you haven’t already register then you’ll need to do that first….this helps keep spammers out.  That means I need to approve everyone registering.
